Electric Vehicle Charging and Car Washing Go Hand in Hand

In Highland Park, Illinois, EV drivers can now charge their electric vehicles at the car wash. Crossroads Soft Cloth Car Wash and Detail installed a ChargePoint station for their customers to use for free while their cars are being detailed. Many of their clients drive EVs, so Crossroads saw the need for charging and took action.

Electric vehicle charging fits into Crossroads’ overall environmental goal, which they state is “to provide maximum vehicle protection with minimal environmental impact”. For a business that wants to direct their efforts towards eco-friendly and green initiatives, such as using biodegradable chemicals in their cleaning process, offering electric vehicle charging to customers compliments this objective.

Another dual charging and car wash initiative of note is from Hyundai Motor Company, who is providing an option for EV customers to charge during a self-car wash. At EV Park – Washholic Center Bundang/Yongin, four 100kW class rapid chargers are available at the drying zone after the car is rinsed.

Businesses are getting creative with services to offer their EV driving customers that incentivize charging at their property. What other services could benefit EV drivers during charging time? Grabbing a coffee at a local Starbucks during a charge is a nice perk, but it may actually be more beneficial to reach EV driving customers by offering services they are more inclined to need, like a car wash, so they can kill two birds with one stone.

It’s also interesting to consider the benefits of offering free charging, like Crossroads is doing. Might there be a way to incorporate charging fees with a provided service? Businesses can think of different ways to make a profit from EV charging when combined with other services for electric vehicles.
