Sona Energy Installs No-Cost DC Fast Charging at Colorado Quick Service Restaurant

Project Overview

The CEO of a global quick service restaurant (QSR) in Colorado was looking to increase in-store traffic and customer dwell time. Sona Energy partnered with the QSR to install two DCFC charging stations at two pilot locations. The installation increased business to their site and helped build a sustainable footprint in their community.

"We’ve seen a decline of in-store customers over the past few years which was exacerbated by the pandemic. This resulted in a reduction of the average ticket. By adding DCFC charging stations, we were able to attract EV drivers to our sites and increase dwell time in the restaurants. Customer spend grew as a result of increased dwell time. Partnering with Sona Energy to add this amenity helped us draw in revenue and improve our store experience."

The Solution

Sona Energy partnered with a global quick service restaurant interested in providing EV charging for their customers. Sona engineers began with Top 2 engagement and an analysis of their potential sites. After, the Sona team walked the QSR leadership through the options and differences between Level 2 and DC fast charging. For the time customers typically spend in their stores, the team mutually decided that DCFC stations were the best option.

Next Steps:
  • Researching available state grants and utility incentives
  • Cross-referencing their addresses against Sona's database of funding opportunities
  • Submitting program applications
  • Determining Denver, CO as the best location for the pilot project
