When it comes to lighting your grocery store, the decisions you make play a large role in how your customers shop, your employees perform, and how your products appear. Sona Energy helps our grocer customers find custom lighting and energy-related solutions that improve existing systems while achieving maximum energy and cost savings.

To begin a lighting project, we first consider the major areas of the store and types of fixtures present in each. The main sales floor, also known as center of store, is where the store aisles are. Typical options for lighting in this area include aisle fixtures and strip fixtures with T LEDs and integrated fixtures. Moving onto the produce section, you’ll often find track heads, which highlight your products so they are displayed in the most appealing light.

Case lighting is featured throughout the perimeters of the rest of the store. This includes medium temperature cases – think fresh produce, cheese, prepared foods – and service cases, like in the bakery and deli. Service cases are enclosed, meaning the lighting is inside the case. Door lighting is also used for refrigerated cases.

So, how do you know when it’s time to replace your existing lighting? On average, we recommend looking into replacing any lighting in your store that’s at least 7-10 years old.

Taking the time to consider your store’s lighting will help create a safe, warm space where your customers feel welcome. A well-lit store shapes your customer’s experience. Whether through retrofitting, remodeling or new construction in your store, Sona will take a look at where you are now and the problems you’re facing and find the right solution that improves the quality of your space, increases energy efficiency, and enhances your customer experience.

Stay tuned as we dive further into this topic and more, bringing you the resources and tools for all of your energy-related needs.
