Drivers in Maine are making the shift to electric vehicles as the state develops its incentive and rebate programs to encourage the purchase of EVs. Below is a comprehensive list of the EV charging station incentive and rebate programs in Maine.
State Incentives
Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) Rebates
Efficiency Maine’s Electric Vehicle Accelerator provides rebates to Maine residents, businesses, government entities, and tribal governments for the purchase or lease of a new PEV or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) at participating Maine dealerships. The rebate amounts are as follows:

Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Funding
Efficiency Maine offers government and non-profit consumers a rebate of $350 for the purchase of Level 2 EVSE. Applicants can receive one rebate per port, with a maximum of two rebates. Learn more here.
Utility/Private Incentives
Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Grant – CMP
Central Maine Power offers business and municipal customers rebates of up to $4,000 per port for the installation of Level 2 EVSE. Learn more here.
South Portland Level 2 EV Charging Grant Program
The city of South Portland offers grants to eligible for-profit businesses and workplaces for the installation of Level 2 chargers. The city will provide $5,000 per plug or 50% of the allowable project costs and will fund up to six charger plugs. Learn more here.
A Climate to Thrive EV Charging Incentives – ACTT
A Climate to Thrive (ACTT) offers grants of up to $5,000 for municipalities, non-profits, schools, and businesses for the purchase and installation of public EVSE. Learn more here.
